DEPARTURE LOUNGE announce first live dates in 17 years!
“Casebook studies in flawless songwriting. This is great pop music, unadorned by spin, resolutely free of pretence.” (NME)
The four original members of this internationally acclaimed band from the UK will reform in September for live shows in Brighton and London to coincide with the 20th anniversary re-issue of their three classic LP’s.
Departure Lounge are re-issuing ‘Out Of Here’ (1999), ‘Jetlag Dreams’ (2001), and ‘Too Late To Die Young’ (2002) across all digital platforms in 2019. A brand new 23-track deluxe version of their debut, ‘Out Of Here’ is available online now.
Active between 1998-2002, Departure Lounge toured alongside The Go-Betweens, Paul Heaton, Morcheeba and Robyn Hitchcock and released three critically lauded albums in the UK, Europe and the US.
‘Out Of Here’ (1999) was made “Album of the week” by the Sunday Times, who declared that it contained “some of the most wonderful, eclectic, optimistic pop music being created at the moment”.
Signing to Simon Raymonde of the Cocteau Twins’ label Bella Union in the UK and Naive in France and Spain, the instrumental post-rock LP ‘Jetlag Dreams’ was originally released in 2001 and subsequently re-issued on clear vinyl for Record Store Day in 2016.
Their last, Kid Loco produced album ‘Too Late To Die Young’ (2002) was the first ever album of the week on BBC6 Music. It gave them a number one radio hit in Belgium (the single ‘King Kong Frown’) and influential US music magazine Magnet called it “a top to bottom masterwork.”
“Recalls Spiritualized without the kitchen sink arrangements or even a reflective Dandy Warhols without the cynicism. (These songs) shimmer with invention and tasteful flourishes that could see them trouncing Doves at their own game.” (Q)
